Announcement of San Andreas
Announced on March 1, 2004 by Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is the next iteration in the globally successful Grand Theft Auto franchise. Developed by world-class designers Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be available exclusively for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system and is expected to be in stores in North America on October 26, 2004 and in Europe on October 29, 2004.

Storyline
Five years ago Carl Johnson escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas...a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption. Where filmstars and millionaires do their best to avoid the dealers and gangbangers. Now, it's the early 90s. Carl's got to go home. His mother has been murdered, his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends are all heading towards disaster. On his return to the neighborhood, a couple of corrupt cops frame him for homicide. CJ is forced on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family

and to take control of the streets.

About San Andreas
GTA: San Andreas will feature a quantum improvement in terms of its scope, essentially giving players the run of an entire state--not just a single city like in Vice City or GTAIII. The state of San Andreas will feature three main cities, each inspired by real-life locales. The city of Los Santos is based on Los Angeles, San Fierro is derived from San Francisco, and Las Venturas will mirror the glitch of Las Vegas. Each city will feature its fair share of distinct landmarks to ensure that you know its source material. You'll see palm trees, Compton-inspired urban sprawls, and a fair share of seedy locales in Los Santos. San Fierro will have its own Golden Gate-style centerpiece, as well as its fair share of hills. Finally, Las Venturas will undoubtedly have a neon tube or two popping away amid the casinos that will line its streets. Getting to and from each town will (initially, at least) require you to travel the highways and byways of the state. Rather than just send you driving through miles of open road, you'll find that the fast lanes of San Andreas will feature their own locales to stop by and their own folks to interact with. Rockstar promises that the badlands between each of the cities will be anything but the boring, desolate places you might expect them to be. Furthermore, Rockstar promises that GTA: San Andreas will include no discernible loading times whatsoever for when you're traveling around, so you'll theoretically be able to cruise cross-state without any interruptions. Brief loading times will only be present when entering and exiting all the different buildings in the game.

VGM Description: The latest in the Grand Theft Auto series set to be released in October 2004 looks to be the greatest one yet. High definition graphics and quality game play are just a few of the improvements made to this addition of one of the most life-like games ever made. This time, the game is set in three different cities L.A., Los Vegas, San Fransisco, and all of the country that lies between them. The game will be built upon a multi-layer DVD. The game is also going to be more focused on the shooting/driving part of the game. Newer clothes as well as access to more clothes, and ability to wield dual weapon types are a few of the many new characteristics of the game. They are more mini games involved as well. Graphical detail and live-like traits have been upgraded as vehicles will rust and dirty up as time goes by. Visiting a pay ’n’ spray will fix this right up. You also have the ability to actually do things that everyday normal people do, such as shop and get your hair cut. You can even choose what type of hairstyle you want to get cut. The plot of the game will be the same in that it will still be funny, yet the characters will still be serious. San Andreas is also rumored to be multi-player style. This has not been confirmed anywhere by anyone including Rockstar. The font styles contained in GTA: San Andreas will be fancy but not as fancy as in Vice City. Vice City focused primarily on fancy cars, snappy clothes, and money with all fonts in a very metropolitan/fancy way. San Andreas will contain all fonts and words displayed in Old English format. At first, San Andreas was rumored to be set in the 50’s, since Vice City was set in the 80’s lowered down from GTA 3. It has now been confirmed that the game will actually be set in the early 90’s closer to the timeline of GTA 3. Tommy Vercetti has also disappeared from the picture, for you play as a man known as Carl Johnson.

You’ll also notice appearances and mentioning of previous GTA characters, realistic graphics (reflections and shadowing), ability to recruit gang members for missions, 4 person drive-by’s, ability to rob houses, improved targeting system, ability to swim, improved car handling, more modes of transportation, and new melee combat animations in San Andreas. Missions will be made to suit you skill level, and your actions while not on missions will effect your position in the story line. You must eat to maintain health and stamina, you can go to the gym and work out, and new improved weapons, variety of weapons, and revamped previous weapons will also appear in GTA: San Andreas.

gta4.jpg

The cities themselves will be more populated, more detailed, and contain a much higher vehicle population than in Vice City. Cities will also contain smaller details such as more characters, secrets, music, story line, architectural style, pedestrian actions, character accents’, mission types, and challenges than in Vice City. City features gets much more detailed then even this. For example the L.A. part of the game will feature crystalline lighting, quad speed-bikes, street basketball, hot sun, low-rider vehicles with hydraulics, and fully functional casinos. The draw distance has increased by twice as much in metropolis areas, and nearly four times as much in country-like areas. Even the speed of game play is great. The only "loading" time involved is a short pause when entering buildings; which they’re many more accessible buildings than before. The targeting system has been upgraded to this: If the target is green, then they have full health. If the target is yellow, they will have half of their full health, and if red is displayed, the person can be killed within 1 or a few shots depending upon the weapon being used. Even car jacking proves a much greater threat to you because now, your gang is involved.

Although the cities involved in San Andreas are based upon the actual cities, some names have been changed. For example, Hollywood is known as Vinewood. Rockstar promises that the games’ difficulty will adjust itself invisibly if the player gets stuck, with out the player even knowing that it is happening. As we said before you play as Carl Johnson. He must eat at least once every few days. If you do not feed him, he will become weak and slow, yet then again feeding him too much will cause him to become fat and slow. Working out and bulking up at the gym too much will cause him to be strong yet slow. These differences will effect Carl’s weapon skills and accuracy, fighting skills (punching and hand-to-hand combat), weight, other physique, driving skills, and relationships. This is just a short description of how much detail there is in GTA: San Andreas, which is predicted to be the best-selling game within a 5 year, possibly 10 year period. The details and customization involved are stunning, unique, and absolute compared to older GTA games as well as any other driving/shooting based game.

Authors Note: I woulf just like to take the time to write a list of the people I have to thank for the walkthrough. This FAQ was written and produced all on my own. I did not have any help or use any part of anyone elses’ strategy guide. It took me a long time to finish, and I don’t want any of you copying my FAQ as sdcredit for your own. If you wish to use part of my FAQ, just email me and ask. If anyone sees anyone using any part of my FAQ, please email or notify me immediately. Thank you and enjoy!

Thanks to those few who helped:

  1. Rockstar
  2. Thank you so much Rockstar. Over the last 4 years, I’ve become extremely addicted to your games. I find each and everyone of them to be excellent, high-quality, down right oblivious material. Many people have forgottn about GTA3, and Vice City now that you’ve unleashed San Andreas. But once and a while, I find myself bringing them back out to play. I study each of them with great detail and compare them to the last. I still would have to say that GTA3 is my favorite. I know, it’s old, and outdated, and has rather corrupt graphics compared to what we are now used to but, let’s face it: GTA3 was and always will be THE SHIT! It was the first GTA on PS2, the first GTA in 3D, and it’s what started the whole GTA-hype trend. It also has class, a true classical game for the GTA tradition. The earlier gta’s hve nearly been forgotten now. Even so, I have all 3, GTA, GTA: London 1969, and GTA2 for the PS1. I rarely play them anymore, but I still take some interest in them. Anyway, thank you Rockstar, and keep up the good work. At the rate your business is booming, you will be the next generation of video gaming craze, and you will reign supreme.
